A band by any other name

Alias

Jeff McLean - Guitar, Vocals
Sam Bryant - Drums
Rick Byrd - Bass
Carlton Clark - Keyboards
Peter D - Keyboards, Vocals
Brenda (?) - Vocals

In the swirling events of ‘79, Peter D rebounded with some of his old schoolmates, with mostly jazz-fusion in mind. The Dixie Dregs were big at the time, but Alias’ M.O. favored funk overtones over superchops.

Business first, they secured the ‘80 Laney High School prom gig. And learned lots of covers, form Blondie, The Cars, The Pretenders, Pink Floyd, etc. They must have surely done “Brick House”.

After that is a fog. Besides Peter, they seem to have migrated elsewhere in search of musical careers. Sam, for one wound up on tour with blues wunderkind Kenny Wayne Shepard.

That they were a bi-racial band seems to have been an exception for Wilmington.
