The Discussion Forum has a role hierarchy. From the top down:

Core: Active content partners
Inner Circle: Our closest friends
Squirrelista: Default for new members
Banned: Members denied participation in discussions
Unauthenticated: The general public, members not logged in

One automatically assumes Squirrelista status upon registering, but may be bumped up by an administrator, factored by their actual “proximity”.
