The Discussion Forum has a role hierarchy. From the top down:
- Core: Active content partners
- Inner Circle: Our closest friends
- Squirrelista: Default for new members
- Banned: Members denied participation in discussions
- Unauthenticated: The general public, members not logged in
One automatically assumes Squirrelista status upon registering, but may be bumped up by an administrator, factored by their actual “proximity”.
Discussion topics are categorized, and categories are also organized by hierarchy:
- Core: Only visible to Core role
- Inner Circle: Only to Inner Circle and Core roles
To ecourage interaction as a whole community, these categories are open to Squirrelistas, Inner Circles, and Cores:
- Say Hello: Meet and greet
- Help: Tips on how to get the most out of the forum
- SqrlTalk: Band-centric discusssions
- The Scene: Explore other aspects of ’80’s Wilmington
- Search The Forum: More a link than a discussion
- Random: Things that don’t go anywhere else.
Administrators may create more categories (and roles) as they perceive direction in discussion at one or more levels.
When starting a discussion, one may assign the topic a category based on one’s role, i.e. permission. This arrangement allows some discretion by higher roles. Core members may converse privately on core matters. Inner Circles may pass information not privy to Squirrelistas. Each role can view it’s associated categories and those below, but not those above.
