How to talk to sqrlz
The site administrators want everyone to have a blissful experience while they’re here. We are here to route the flow. We quality control all content and user input. Chaperones. Be nice.
When posting on the main page or the forum, please be aware of the context and your potential audience, and post accordingly. The Main Page is a place to add to the record, not really for giving a shout out to yer boy. The Forum is much less formal, but keep in mind the different roles at play when choosing a topic category. General topics should reside at the common “Squirrelista” level, so they reach the common audience. More broadcast closure is available to higher roles, for instance, a conversation can be restricted to Inner Circle or above, cutting out the Squirrelistas. Please observe the distinction, and choose accordingly.
We put a generic greeting at the top of the Discussion Index. something to read when you join the Forum. Discussions with new unviewed content have a purple background. If your greeting is purple it may be a bulletin (then again it could be superfluous).
You can select a topic, read the comments and post one of your own. It will appear at the end of the list when you submit it. If it pertains to something farther up, or in response to something in particular, you might want to reference that somehow (like ‘Re: Russ’ Instant Edge Formula’) or something, so it doesn’t appear too out of context.
Speaking of context, it changes fast. We rely on each other to begin a new topic if we’ve strayed too far from the original. And of course you’re welcome to ’start a new discussion’ if you’ve got a new topic.
You’ll notice an option to whisper your comment. This allows you to contact another member one on one - no one else sees it. The post appears in green to sender and recipient. In fact, if you start a topic with a whisper, it will remain an entirely private conversation. Useful!
This gives users a way to be discreet. XYZ and all that. Another more important benefit is to keep the forum clear of one to one chatter, which often gets silly, and tiresome to those wading through it. Like an obnoxious boring conversation. Please use this tool as a courtesy to your fellow members. Of course it is always fine to party, indeed it’s the essence of the whole damn thing. Just know if you need a room, it’s waiting for you.
More options you’ll notice under the input box are Text and HTML buttons. This allows one to insert simple HTML tags into the comment, such as a hyperlink, image link, or text formatting.
If you know your HTML, then try it out (keep images small, 450px wide max). If you don’t know, or care, just select text. We will have an HTML tips page sometime.
