At the Hut - 1983-4

Be warned: these are embryonic in nature both in performance and recording, offering a glimpse into the sweaty creative process.

Strains of XTC’s “English Settlement” and U2’s “October” albums began to filter into the arrangements.

I Could Break Your Heart

Dark romantic doubts.
Russ on keyboards. Paul was absent. Portentious?

Our House

The Band of Bachelors. All dressed up and nowhere to go.
Lynn is on board.

Dierdre

She was from Ireland, staying on Harbor Island for the summer, and taught the Squirrels and their friends a a thing or two about partying. She was off before getting to hear her song. They wished they could have gone with her.
Danny had his hands full with the melodic bass part, and with the guitars trimmed, he had room to expand.

In Your Waiting Car

Peter chimes optimistic but there’s tension and claustrophobia in the air. All work, and not all fun.

Snakes

A staple. We’ve heard this story many times. But who’s snaking who?
The sonic pallette seemed to smooth. Lynn had bought a set of Simmons electronic drums, and Ken Byrd was getting involved. This is also a period when they got a taste of opening for national acts at the Mad Monk, and added several tunes by Lynn to the repetoire. The tape sounds like a Friday night.
